Abstract:

The mechanism of signal transmission in inner hair cells is still elusive, therefore causes of

peculiar signal patterns such as large EPSCs peaks and multiphasic EPSCs are unclear. We propose an energy-based model for exocytosis of multiple vesicles. We introduce electrostatic energy caused by negatively charged glutamates and ions in electrolytes, and mechanical energy which are regulated by calcium concentration. We find that the electrostatic energy acts as lowering the total system energy. A group of vesicles shows synchronized exocytosis with electrostatic energy, whereas vesicles tend to fuse individually only with the sufficient mechanical energy. We expect that our model is a good explanation for synaptic transmission of multiple vesicles system and the model can be applicable to inner hair cells.
