Circular Economy

The department Circular Economy investigates and develops innovative methods and tools for a holistic assessment of new technologies and circular concepts for the transformation into a sustainable energy system. In order to be able to map these in a holistic way, methods for (prospective) Life Cycle Sustainability Assessments (LCSA) are being continuously developed further. In addition to minimizing environmental effects and waste streams as well as maximizing resource efficiency, social impacts and economic implications are also analysed. In particular, hydrogen technologies, power-to-X systems, CO2 avoidance and utilization technologies as well as strategies for the use of biogenic residues have been the focus of the work to date.
