Catalyst Materials for Liquid Phase Reactions

Katalysatormaterialien für Flüssigphasenreaktionen

The scientific work in the field of “Catalyst Materials for Liquid Phase Reactions” at INW-2 focuses on dynamic catalysts for the storage and release of hydrogen by means of chemical reactions in the liquid phase. For this application, the catalysts must be optimally suited for hydrogenation, dehydrogenation, or reforming as liquid phase reactions, while also taking into account the influence of added or formed hydrogen gas. The design, development, and optimization of the catalyst materials are carried out specifically for the liquid phase. This includes the characterization of the catalysts, taking into account influences from the liquid phase, such as wetting or the stability of the catalyst in the liquid. Furthermore, mass and heat transport at the catalyst in the multiphase reaction system are investigated. This department focuses on experimental analyses of promising systems on a laboratory scale. Optimized catalyst materials can then be used on a larger scale and in application-oriented setups and demonstration projects.
