H2 Demonstration Projects (INW-D)

As part of the H2 demonstration region, the Rhineland mining area is becoming a showcase for innovative hydrogen technologies. The partners in the cluster (HC-H2) are working to demonstrate the market readiness of these novel applications. The INW-D is providing scientific support for the projects and project partners, including assistance with funding procedures. Following successful demonstration, project partners should be in a position to market the technologies. Interested parties will have the opportunity to observe the hydrogen applications in operation and view the resulting data sets, enabling them to make investment decisions on this basis. The demonstration, and possibly also the subsequent production and marketing of the technologies, is intended to generate economic power in the Rhineland region as a counterweight to the economic consequences of phasing out lignite-fired power generation by 2030. In addition, the H2 demonstration region is intended to accelerate the market introduction of climate-friendly hydrogen technologies. The demonstration projects are funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. This minimises the risk and increases the willingness of partners to invest in the demonstration of future technologies.
