Theory of electrochemical interfaces and materials

The TIM division is concerned with the development and solution of physical-mathematical models to capture and comprehend materials phenomena on all scales, from atomic to device level. We elucidate how functional materials and components (e.g.,porous electrodes and composite catalyst layers, polymer-based electrolytes, porous transport media) form, how they function in normal operation, how they fade due to aging and degradation, and how they fail to operate.
