Oxidation Mechanism Observations

The flight mission OMO (Oxidation Mechanism Observations) took place in 2015 and was the first photochemistry mission performed with the research aircraft HALO. The goal was to investigate the atmospheric self-cleaning capacity and the chemistry of air pollutants in the free troposphere under the influence of emissions from South Asia during the summer monsoon. The flights were performed above the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and the Mediterranean. A focus of the project was the measurement of free radicals (OH, HO₂) performed by Forschungszentrum Jülich and Max-Planck Institut für Chemie in Mainz. Details of the campaign can be found here
