Institute of Energy Technologies (IET)

The Institute of Energy Technologies (IET) develops and investigates technologies for the conversion and storage of renewably generated electrical energy. To keep pace with the rapid growth in power generation from solar and wind, rapid solutions must be found for the efficient and cost-effective conversion and storage of electrical energy, as well as its multiple uses in industry, commerce, and mobile applications. The aim is to balance out regional and temporal fluctuations in the supply of electrical energy and to ensure that relevant energy sectors will become CO_2-neutral and, wherever possible, CO₂-negative.

Fundamental Electrochemistry (IET-1)

At the IET-1, we develop new key technologies in the areas of electrochemical energy storage and conversion in order to advance the energy transition and the structural change in the Rhineland area.

Helmholtz Institute Erlangen-Nürnberg for Renewable Energy (IET-2 / HI ERN)

The Helmholtz Institute Erlangen-Nürnberg for Renewable Energy (HI ERN) investigates and develops material- and process-based solutions for a climate-neutral, sustainable, and cost-effective utilization of renewable energies.

Theory and Computation of Energy Materials (IET-3)

At IET-3, we combine theoretical physics, computer simulations, physical modeling and data analytics to understand, how materials for advanced energy technologies form, function, fade and fail.

Electrochemical Process Engineering (IET-4)

The transition to a sustainable energy system requires the use of new, efficient technologies for the conversion of greenhouse gas-free secondary energy sources obtained from renewable energies.
