Micromechanics and deformation mechanisms
To understand microstructure-dependent mechanical behavior, we conduct miniaturized mechanical experiments such as uniaxial compression and tension, micro-beam bending, and fracture across a range of temperatures and strain rates. These micromechanical tests provide insight into the fundamental deformation mechanisms of individual microstructural features. This, in turn, reveals the complex interactions between different microstructures and ultimately informs the mechanical performance of bulk materials in structural applications.
