Human Brain Project (HBP)

Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) Flagship of the European Commission to create an innovative, ICT-based scientific research infrastructure for brain research, cognitive neuroscience and neuro-inspired computing. The project will run for ten years from 2013 to 2023 and involves scientists from 118 institutions and 19 countries.

EBRAINS

EBRAINS is a new digital research infrastructure, created by the EU-funded Human Brain Project, that gathers an extensive range of data and tools for brain-related research. EBRAINS will capatalize on the work performed by the Human Brain Project teams in digital neuroscience, brain medicne, and brain-inspired technology and will take it to the next level.

HIBALL

As part of the Helmholtz International BigBrain Analytics and Learning Laboratory HIBALL, we further advance the BigBrain Project with our partners of The Neuro at McGill University and MILA in Montreal.

HelmholtzAI

Together wit JSC we form the Helmholtz AI Local Unit for the research field Information. At INM-1 we focus on robust deep learning methods for microscopic image analysis. Driven by high-throughput data acquisition and the ambition to quickly transfer knowledge across tasks and scientific domains, the implementation of AI methods on HPC systems is a key aspect.

AIDAS

AIDAS - AI, Data Analytics and Scalable Simulation - is a virtual lab between CEA, France and FZJ, Germany. The goal is to build a joint international research institute for simulation, quantum computing, data analytics and AI in the era of Exascale Computing and beyond.

Helmholtz Metadata Collaboration

Within the Helmholtz Metadata Collaboration (HMC) platform, new concepts and technologies for the sustainable handling of complex research data are developed. The information HUB is located at the Forschungszentrum.

Fenix Research Infrastructure

Fenix represents a novel approach for the provisioning of e-infrastructure resources. The offered resources are not limited to supercomputing resources, but also include access to interactive compute resources and a data infrastructure. The Fenix services are integrated in a common Authentication and Authorization Infrastructure (AAI) and include a user and resource management service. User access to resources is free of charge and granted via a peer-review based allocation mechanism that also offers the possibility to submit proposals for small-scale projects to the European research communities.

Interactive Computing e-Infrastructure for the Human Brain Project (ICEI)

In the ICEI project, five leading European supercomputing centres, namely BSC, CEA, CINECA, CSCS and the JSC, are committed to develop a set of computing and data services that will be federated across the consortium. The project is funded by the European Commission under the Framework Partnership Agreement of the Human Brain Project and is the first implementation project of the Fenix research infrastructure. The services that are offered by the Fenix infrastructure have been developed in a close collaboration with researchers from the HBP and were designed based on use cases from HBP neuroscientists. The distinguishing characteristic of this e-infrastructure is that data repositories and scalable supercomputing systems are in close proximity and well integrated.

Ecosystem for Digital Twins in Healthcare (EDITH)

The EDITH project (Ecosystem for Digital Twins in Healthcare) is a two-year European Coordination and Support Action (CSA), which aims to foster an ecosystem for Digital Twins in healthcare.

INM-1 contributes to National Research Data Infrastructure for Microscopy and Image Analysis

At the beginning of November, the Joint Science Conference (GWK) decided to include eight more consortia in a third round of funding for the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). This means that the NFDI4BIOIMAGE consortium will also be funded for the next five years. At INM-1, Prof. Timo Dickscheid's research group "Big Data Analytics" is involved in the consortium.
