The focus in SMART II is on increasing the technical maturity level of the fuel cell stack so that the hurdle between the reliability in the laboratory environment and the reliable use as a prototype in the field of application (e.g. in a demonstration or field test) can be taken. Concretely, the focus in the performance-related area is on the increase in stack efficiency and long-term stability, on the reduction of the sulfur poisoning of the anode and on the life-cycle-related range on the increase of the thermal cycling resistance and on the redoxstability of the stack.
