About me

I studied Chemistry with a focus on Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and later obtained a Master’s degree in Nanobiotechnology from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. For my PhD I moved to the Forschungszentrum Jülich in the group of Georg Büldt, where I studied protein folding on the ribosome, spending also time in the lab of Knud Nierhaus at the MPI for Molecular Genetics in Berlin. After obtaining my PhD I remained at the Forschungszentrum Jülich in the group of Jörg Fitter as a postdoc and later as a Project Leader, continuing to work on co-translational protein folding using single molecule fluorescence methods. During this time, I established different cell-free protein synthesis systems, as well as the incorporation of unnatural amino acids into proteins. In parallel, I initiated collaborations with the labs of Martin Hegner at Trinity College in Dublin and Sander Tans at AMOLF in Amsterdam, both experts in Optical Tweezers, a force-based single molecule technique.

Joining the Sachse lab my intention is to bring and combine my previous acquired knowledge with structural biology and cryoEM.
