My research focuses on the processes in the lower atmosphere and their impact on air quality, weather, and climate. I am particularly interested in the specific organic composition of airborne trace substances. Like a fingerprint, this composition provides insights into the origin, chemistry, transport, fate, and impact of atmospheric components. Key examples include biogenic and anthropogenic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and their oxidation products, which can form ozone and organic aerosol, ultrafine particles and microplastics.

Ich erforsche Prozesse in der unteren Atmosphäre und deren Auswirkungen auf Luftqualität, Wetter und Klima. Mein besonderes Interesse gilt der spezifischen organischen Zusammensetzung luftgetragener Spurenstoffe. Wie ein Fingerabdruck liefert diese Hinweise auf Herkunft, Chemie, Transport, Verbleib und Wirkung von Luftkomponenten. Wichtige Beispiele sind hierfür biogene und anthropogene flüchtige Kohlenwasserstoffe (VOCs), deren Oxidationsprodukte, welche Ozon und organisches Aerosol bilden können, ultrafeine Partikel und Mikroplastik.
