Mission completed- T-REX neutron beam port insert installed
Part of our project team as ESS German partner was at ESS for the installation of the T-REX Neutron Beam Port Insert. Surrounding the Monolith, there will be 16 inserts for the 15 planned instruments and the Test Beamline, with the rest of the port tubes equipped with plugs. The inserts contain neutron optics that will guide the moderated neutrons on the very first part of their journey towards the sample position of each instrument. Plugs – massive steel shielding blocks – are installed into the port tubes currently not occupied by an instrument. The design of the Neutron Beam Port Inserts and Plugs was a collaborative effort between FZJ and ESS Target Division.

For the ZEA-1 team it was a great moment and to get some closure and wrap up 4 years of work, and to install T-REX, one of the final NBPIs, with the fantastic ESS team. A big thank you back for everyone's contributions and also to the phenomenal Fantini team. ZEA-1 is looking forward to more interesting and challenging projects in the future with ESS.
