Supercomputers help us find solutions to major social and scientific challenges. The Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) operates one of the most advanced supercomputing infrastructures for scientific applications in Europe – including JUPITER, the first exascale supercomputer in Europe – and provides access and support to national and international researchers at Forschungszentrum Jülich, in Germany, and throughout Europe. The “Office for the Allocation of Computing Time”, together with the “Application Support division”, are looking for a new colleague for the management of national and international computing time projects on JUPITER and other HPC systems at JSC.

Your Job:

Join our team to manage computing time resources and projects. Your tasks include:

  • Coordination of calls for allocation processes and computing time budgets with our European partners
  • Organization of technical and scientific review processes
  • Participation in national and international resource allocation board meetings and project meetings
  • Presentation of results in collaboration meetings, workshops and conferences and preparation of project reports
  • Support for users, from application and administrative issues to running projects on JSC’s infrastructure


Your Profile:

  • Master degree in Technomathematics, computer science, engineering, physics, mathematics or natural science or equivalent degree
  • Very good knowledge of techniques and methods of computer-aided sciences
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of and scientific application programming for supercomputers
  • Knowledge in GPU-based programming and modelling of scientific simulations are desirable
  • Programming experience in C, C++, or Fortran is desirable
  • Knowledge in the scripting language Python, Perl, JavaScript, SQL, Git are desirable
  • Experience with office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and with LaTeX
  • Great ability to work in a multidisciplinary team of scientists with heterogeneous backgrounds solving scientifically challenging problems on large computers
  • Self-motivated personality with very good command of written/spoken English and ideally a good command of German

The position is initially for a fixed term of 2 years, with possible longer-term prospects. Salary and social benefits will conform to the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD-Bund), pay group 13, depending on the applicant’s qualifications and the precise nature of the tasks assigned to them.
