Spin Matters: A Multidisciplinary Roadmap to Understanding Spin Effects in Oxygen Evolution Reaction During Water Electrolysis
Published: 10 October 2025

In this review paper led by Chris Baeumer’s group at University of Twente, we highlight the recent advances in the field of spin-enhanced electrocatalysis, representing a growing field of research. Complex oxides are one material class, showing both magnetic orders as well as high electrocatalytic performances, rendering complex oxides such as (La,Sr)MnO3 as model system to explore spin-polarization mediated activity changes. This review reflect a collaborative effort, including a PGI-7 contribution on a systematic model system approach, which we follow for the past few years in our group.
