We are offering a
PhD Position - Magnetic and structural properties of nanoparticles in solutions
Your Job:
The aim of this PhD position is to characterize magnetic nanoparticles in solvents, such as water, both magnetically and structurally. For this purpose, chemically synthesized iron oxide nanoparticles with diameters in the range of 10 - 20 nm are used. The objective is to design nanoparticle-solution mixtures in such a way that they are optimal for medical applications such as hyperthermia or magnetic particle imaging (MPI). To this end, the physical and structural properties must first be characterized and understood. The following experimental methods in particular are used for this purpose:
- Investigation of the structural properties of the nanoparticles with respect to their internal crystallographic structure using X-ray diffraction
- Investigation of the mesoscopic arrangement of particles and their magnetic properties using small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and small-angle neutron scattering (SANS)
- The characterization of magnetic properties using magnetometry and susceptometry
Your Profile:
- You have a Master`s degree in physics, chemistry, nanosciences or a comparable subject and are looking for a topic for a doctorate
- You have an interest and ideally also previous knowledge in the field of solid state physics, physical chemistry, nanotechnology, nanoscience, and ideally also previous knowledge of scattering methods, nanomagnetism and magnetometry
- You have previous knowledge or a strong interest in familiarizing yourself with various data analysis software
- Independent and responsible way of working, commitment, high degree of team spirit and enjoyment of cooperative collaboration
- You have a very good command of written and spoken English
Our Offer:
Our work is at the forefront of cutting-edge, innovative issues, offering you the opportunity to actively help in shaping change! We support you in your research with:
- A large research campus with green spaces, offering the best opportunities for networking with colleagues and also pursuing sports alongside work
- Excellent scientific equipment
- Qualified supervision by academic colleagues
- The opportunity to work autonomously in the preparation and implementation of the tasks assigned
- Possibility of flexible working with a mix of remote work and on-site work
