The Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine - 4 (INM-4), led by Professor N. Jon Shah, is dedicated to advancing the field of medical imaging physics. The institute focuses on the innovation, experimental validation, and clinical integration of novel brain imaging techniques. You will work for the new project entitled “Myelo- and irono-architecture of the in vivo human brain using AI-powered advanced susceptibility imaging at ultra-high field”. This DFG-funded project is based on a unique combination of complementary skills of Korean and German groups and is anticipated to substantially advance our knowledge of the myelin and iron architecture of the in vivo human brain.

Your Job:

  • Engage in cutting-edge neuroscientific, biophysical and medical research as part of a team of interdisciplinary researchers, including scientists, IT experts and clinicians
  • Acquire strong expertise in the field of magnetic resonance imaging at 7T and susceptibility mapping
  • Develop and implement MRI sequences, acceleration techniques and A.I. algorithms for the acquisition and analysis of medical image data using state-of-the-art imaging and computing facilities at the Forschungszentrum Jülich
  • Publish research in high-impact journals and present at leading international conferences

Your Profile:

  • Completed a Master`s degree in physics or medical physics (preferably with an MRI related master’s thesis)
  • A solid background in physics, supported by academic transcript and two recommendations
  • Understanding of physical principles of MRI
  • Ideally experience with machine learning and numerical methods
  • Expertise in programming (C/C++, Python, Matlab)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset
  • The determination to push yourself to the limit to engage in groundbreaking research
  • A collaborative ‘can do’ attitude and a strong sense of team spirit
  • Fluency in English - both verbally and in writing

The position is for a fixed term of 3 years. Pay in line with 75% of pay group 13 of the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD-Bund) and additionally 60 % of a monthly salary as special payment („Christmas bonus“). Pay higher than the basic pay may be possible.
