Support us at the Institute of Climate and Energy Systems – Jülich Systems Analysis (ICE-2) in the field of social science energy research. Our interdisciplinary institute focuses on the unbiased, scientific investigation of technologies, technology pathways, value chains and market ramp-ups in future energy systems, taking into account material requirements, sector coupling, stakeholder preferences, and socio-political framework conditions. The team Energy Social Science investigates the preferences and behaviors of actors in the heating, mobility, and electricity sectors, as well as with regard to green hydrogen, in exchange with other disciplines. To this end, qualitative and quantitative social science research methods as well as computer-aided simulations are used. We present the results of our research activities to decision-makers in politics and business to enable them to make informed decisions.

Your Job:

• Addressing socio-technical research questions in the context of the transformation of the German energy system
• Analyzing microdata (e.g., survey data, digital behavioral data) and macrodata
• Collaborating in designing empirical questionnaire studies (standardized questionnaires and survey experiments)
• Developing evidence-based policy recommendations for political, economic, and civil society actors
• Presenting research findings at national and international conferences
• Publishing research findings in renowned scientific and stakeholder journals


Your Profile:

• Excellent master`s degree in social sciences, economics, political science, or a comparable field of study
• Knowledge of quantitative data analysis (ideally with Stata)
• Ideally, knowledge of designing standardized questionnaires, discrete choice experiments, and/or vignette studies
• Ideally, knowledge of programming online questionnaires (preferably with SoSci Survey)
• Ideally, knowledge of digital behavioral data
• Ideally, knowledge of qualitative social research
• Motivation to learn about acceptance research for future-oriented energy systems
• Independent and structured way of working
• Willingness to work cooperatively and enthusiastically in an international and interdisciplinary team
• Very good German and English skills

We offer you an exciting and varied role in an international and interdisciplinary working environment. The position is initially limited to 3 years. Remuneration and social benefits are in accordance with the collective agreement for the public sector (TVöD-Bund); depending on your qualifications and the tasks assigned, you will be classified in pay grade EG 13 TVöD-Bund.
