AI Services: Publicly funded AI consultancy for SMEs and start-ups
Many German companies are lagging behind in the use of AI. Researchers at Forschungszentrum Jülich are therefore supporting SMEs and start-ups with publicly funded AI services to accelerate the adoption of AI and bring specific use cases to fruition.
Cutting-edge research focused on practical applications
This topic forms part of Forschungszentrum Jülich’s presentation at HANNOVER MESSE 2026. General information about the exhibition, the projects on display and Forschungszentrum Jülich’s stand can be found on the central landing page for the fair.
Many use cases for AI have already been identified. However, decision-makers often lack reliable guidance. Furthermore, a clear overview of existing approaches and current research trends is frequently missing. Many companies are still in a high-risk investment phase, without a clear path to financial success.

This is where the service comes in, offering independent, research-driven AI consultancy and prototyping. It is designed for SMEs and start-ups with a specific AI use case and supports organisations in their early stages through feasibility assessments, concept development and independent matching with implementation partners. Prototype solutions are also jointly developed as part of funded research collaborations.
Following more than 100 initial consultations and over 10 research collaborations, several prototypes have already been successfully deployed in production. The implementation examples to date are intended to encourage further companies to adopt AI, whilst also contributing to the development of AI talent in research and industry.
Examples include a chatbot for family carers, which is being developed in a research collaboration with the German Red Cross. Another example is an AI tutor, developed in collaboration with u-form for e-learning in the context of Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) apprenticeships.
