Frequency Mixing Magnetic Detection Setup Employing Permanent Ring Magnets.

In this work, a measurement head for frequency mixing magnetic detection (FMMD) is introduced which involves the utilization of two ring-shaped permanent magnets to generate a static offset magnetic field. A steel cylinder in the ring bores homogenizes the field. Through variation of the distance between the ring magnets and of the thickness of the steel cylinder, the magnitude of the magnetic field at the sample position can be adjusted. Furthermore, the measurement setup is compared to the electromagnet offset module based on measured signals and temperature behavior.

Single-neuron mechanical perturbation evokes calcium plateaus that excite and modulate the network

In our new Scientific Reports publication Cepkenovic et al. describe how small mechanical stimuli applied to a single neuron can have wide reaching and long lasting effects on neuronal network signalling. Piezo channels and gap junctions were implicated in conduction of these calcium based changes in activity. The findings have wide ranging implications from the design of non-invasive ultrasound brain stimulation to interpretation of the gold-standard of measuring neural activity - the patch clamp technique.

In this manuscript a brain-inspired closed-loop system has been demonstrated for the accomplishment of motor control and actuation tasks, through a learning process mediated by a neurotransmitter.

Tissue-like interfacing of planar electrochemical organic neuromorphic devices

Daniela Rana and other colleagues from IBI-3, RWTH Aachen and Polytechnique University Montréal, Canada have published (16.07.2024) a paper in Neuromorphic Computing and Engineering. The paper examines the behavior of biogel-based organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) using PEDOT:PSS as the channel and gate material and investigates the impact of electrolyte viscosity and cation diffusivity on short-term plasticity, as well as the effect of neurotransmitter-mediated long-term plasticity.
