Resource Strategies
The Resource Strategies department focuses on the interactions between material and energy systems and how these can influence the energy transition. To this end, integrated energy-material scenarios up to the global level and the necessary models are developed. In addition to the classic material systems, which include resources and reserves, other natural resources such as land and water are also considered. With the help of the integrated energy-material scenarios, potential resource bottlenecks can be revealed at an early stage and model-based options for avoiding these bottlenecks can be discovered. The department thus makes an important contribution to identifying robust transformation paths with a secure energy and resource supply towards a greenhouse gas-neutral energy system.
