Reactors with Integrated Material Separation
Team Lead
About
The team ‘Reactors with integrated material separation’ deals with reactor types that allow one or more components to be selectively removed from the reactor under reaction conditions. Since most relevant reactions for hydrogen storage are limited by thermodynamic equilibria under common reaction conditions, the selective removal of a product from the reaction chamber can increase the driving force for the desired hydrogen release reaction. This can enhance yield and can improve the utilization of the reactor volume. Examples include membrane reactors (reaction vessels with dense, porous, or electrochemically driven membranes for hydrogen removal) and hydrogen separation under catalytic distillation conditions.
Research Topics
- Conceptual developments for product separation under reaction conditions in hydrogen release reactions and their validation
- Reaction engineering characterization of catalyst materials, membrane materials, and membrane reactors for hydrogen release from hydrogen carrier systems
- Determination of physicochemical properties of hydrogen carrier compounds under reaction conditions
