Devices and test setups realised by the ZEA-1 are almost always fully or at least partially automated. The range extends from classic industrial automation and control solutions to highly specialised test benches, including measurement data acquisition and the pre-processing and preparation of measurement data.

ZEA-1 advises from the start of a project on the feasibility of control technology tasks through to the design, development, construction and implementation of complex automation and control solutions.

The synergistic interaction of mechanical, electronic and information technology systems has become an integral part of modern research. In addition to classic systems, the trend is moving towards highly integrated and miniaturised systems such as those used in measurement campaigns with drones.

ZEA-1 has a wide range of expertise in the field of mechatronics and miniaturisation for the development of devices and systems used in research. In addition to high-precision, electronically controlled mechanical systems, this also includes the development and diagnosis of electronic circuits as well as the mechanical processing of small structures in different materials and the connection of these "worlds".
