Joining technologies and materials research

Joining technologies such as electron beam welding play a key role in the scientific development of materials, joining processes and special components, as electron beams can be used to carry out soldering and welding processes as well as material modifications and stress tests under vacuum. The joining technology is demonstrated in numerous ZEA-1 projects.
In the overall research and development of components and parts for highly efficient energy conversion and storage systems, in the development and realization of accelerator components and large-format components and parts for use at low temperatures (moderator and target development), in (ultra) high vacuum, which often have to be joined with high precision.
Joining processes must be continuously analyzed and scientifically evaluated. The test parameters are of great importance for the welding result. Through the joint application of special joining processes and manual welding technology combined with materials science expertise, the joining technology and materials development department at ZEA-1 has become a valuable partner for solving joining technology challenges.
Modern materials research as a basis for solving problems in materials science and joining technology is the foundation of many of ZEA-1's activities.
