Levitating Precision Instruments
About
Precision instruments with magnetic bearings have high-precision controlled drives and consist of components with manufacturing tolerances in the micrometer range. Important applications of such components include choppers for neutron beams and X-ray pulse selectors for synchrotron radiation. Magnetic bearings are often essential for these instruments in order to achieve the precision required for the application. Furthermore, due to the absence of wear, it enables years of maintenance-free continuous operation. Our self-developed drive control achieves a worldwide unique precision in the phase control of the rotors. Together with micrometre-precise rotors, this results in globally unique instruments for science.
Research Topics
- High speed magnetic bearings
- Electromagnetic vibration damping of levitating rotors
