Smart materials without borders: Associate Professorship at University of Twente for PGI-7-scientist Felix Gunkel

7 July 2025

The Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ) and Peter Gruenberg Insitute 7 (PGI-7) have established a stronger link to the University of Twente (UT) via an associate professorship appointment of PGI-7 scientist Felix Gunkel. This appointment will foster a strong cross-border research collaboration centered on advanced materials such as oxide films—crucial for technologies like nanoelectronics, information processing and energy storage. Specifically, we aim to synergize the expertise at UT and FZJ in nanotechnologies to achieve complex oxide thin films with high degree of perfection and (prospectively) semiconductor-grade purity. Within the scope of this appointment, the PGI-7 will provide detailed defect analyses for thin films established in the state-of-the-art facilities of UT, including ferroelectric and electrocatalytic oxides.
