In his dissertation at the Peter Grünberg Institute 9 in Jülich, Dr. Stephan Wirths dealt with the development of low-temperature growth processes for the epitaxial growth of GeSn and SiGeSn alloys directly on Si(001) and on germanium-buffered Si(001) substrates. He succeeded in the first experimental demonstration of light amplification by stimulated emission in these special devices.
