Record spin coherence time in COSY

The JEDI Collaboration has achieved a new record of more than 1000s for the spin coherence time of polarized deuterons, i.e. the time the spin vectors of a large ensemble of polarized can be kept aligned. This is important for the planned experiments on the electric dipole moment (EDM) of the deuteron as it defines the period a particle ensemble can be used for measurement and, thus, the statistical precision of the result.
