The JARA Institute "Molecular Neuroscience and Neuroimaging" (JARA-BRAIN Institute [JBI] 2) is a joint institute of RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich and makes up part of the Jülich Aachen Research Alliance (JARA). JARA-BRAIN Institute 2 is represented in Jülich as a subinstitute of the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine and as an institute of the Medical Faculty, with no involvement in patient care, in Aachen. The aim of the institute is to improve our understanding of neurological and psychiatric diseases by using mathematical models and neuroimaging techniques as a first step in translational research from the laboratory to clinical application.

The JARA-BRAIN Institute 2 is headed by the same board of directors in Aachen and at the Forschungszentrum Jülich, which currently consists of the JARA-professors:
