Seit 2018 arbeite ich mit meinem Team daran, den Strukturwandel im Rheinischen Braunkohlerevier modellhaft zu gestalten, damit sich Veränderungsprozesse im Wirtschaftssystem im Sinne einer biobasierten Kreislaufwirtschaft verstärken. Dabei setzen wir Maßnahmen an der Schnittstelle von Wissenschaft, Wirtschaft und Regionalentwicklung um und positionieren BioökonomieREVIER als sichtbare Modellregion im nationalen und internationalen Umfeld.

Die Region ist ein Hotspot der akademischen Forschung mit Fokus auf Bioökonomie und zeichnet sich durch eine vielfältige Akteurslandschaft aus mittelständischen Unternehmen, Konzernen, Startups, Finanzinstitutionen, landwirtschaftlichen Betrieben und Bildungseinrichtungen aus.

Um diese Entwicklung systematisch zu fördern, haben wir die Inititative BioökonomieREVIER gegründet. Sie koordiniert Integrations- und Innovationsprozesse und gestaltet den Übergang zur Bioökonomie synergetisch. In einem bottom-up-Ansatz binden wir alle Sektoren ein – von Industrie und Landwirtschaft bis zur Gesellschaft. Instrumente wie Transformationsplattformen, Innovationspartnerschaften und Partizipationsformate sorgen dafür, dass Akteure und Stakeholder informiert, aktiviert und eingebunden werden.

Unsere Maßnahmen setzen auf Co-Creation und Open Innovation, orientieren sich an den Bedarfen der regionalen Praxisakteure und nutzen das Wissen von Experten, Praktikern und Forschern. Mithilfe flexibler Unterstützungs-maßnahmen fördern wir die Umsetzung innovativer Ideen, etwa in Wirtschaft, Landwirtschaft und Bildung.

Unser Regionalisierungskonzept entwickeln wir mit europäischen Partnern im Rahmen des von uns koordinierten EU-Projekts BIO2REG weiter, vernetzen uns mit anderen Bioökonomie-Regionen und unterstützen solche, die es werden wollen.

Since 2018, I have been working with my team to shape structural change in the Rhenish lignite mining region in a model way so that transformation processes in the economic system are strengthened in the sense of a bio-based circular economy. We are implementing measures at the interface between science, business and regional development and positioning BioökonomieREVIER as a visible model region in the national and international environment.

The region is a hotspot for academic research with a focus on bioeconomy and is characterised by a diverse landscape of stakeholders including SMEs, corporations, start-ups, financial institutions, agricultural businesses and educational institutions.

We have founded the BioökonomieREVIER initiative to systematically promote this development. It coordinates integration and innovation processes and shapes the transition to the bioeconomy synergistically. Using a bottom-up approach, we involve all sectors - from industry and agriculture to society. Instruments such as transformation platforms, innovation partnerships and participation formats ensure that players and stakeholders are informed, activated and involved.

Our measures focus on co-creation and open innovation, are geared towards the needs of regional practitioners and utilise the knowledge of experts, practitioners and researchers. With the help of flexible support measures, we promote the implementation of innovative ideas, for example in business, agriculture and education.

We are further developing our regionalisation concept with European partners as part of the EU project BIO2REG, which we are coordinating, networking with other bioeconomy regions and supporting those who want to become bioeconomy regions.
