Cryo-EM structures of naturally occurring dimeric photosystem II complexes lacking the Mn4CaO5 cluster

Robust oxygenic photosynthesis requires the efficient assembly and repair of the multi-subunit oxygen-evolving photosystem II (PSII) complex. Previous cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM) structures of PSII assembly/disassembly intermediates have relied on the analysis of deletion mutants or removal of PSII subunits in vitro.

Laser-induced nucleation of magnetic hopfions

Hopfions are three-dimensional topological solitons formed by closed loops of vortex strings, often taking the shape of rings. In magnetic crystals, hopfions have so far been observed only in unusual configurations in which hopfion rings are linked to skyrmion strings.

Orbital magnetoresistance in the antiferromagnet CoO driven by dynamic orbital angular momentum.

Recent predictions of orders of magnitude larger orbital current effects compared with spin currents have attracted considerable interest. However, orbital currents must first be converted into spin currents to interact with the static magnetization dominated by spin angular momentum in conventional magnets.
