Abstract:

With the anticipated need for more than 100 million-way concurrency on emerging exascale HPC systems, interest in enhancing the strong-scalings limits of space-parallelism by parallelization of the time dimension is rapidly increasing. As a well-known time-parallelization method with a high modularity the ’parallel full approximation scheme in space and time’ (PFASST), is an excellent candidate for adaption to a variety of engineering and computational science problems. In this talk a mathematical foundation will be introduced for PFASST, consisting of a multigrid formulation and a customized Local Fourier Analysis. Then, a class of suitable problems is outlined, for which the mathematical foundation yields strategies to analyze and optimize the parallel efficiency and convergence rate of PFASST.

Anyone interested is cordially invited to participate in this seminar.
