Abstract:
For the last decade, Next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology has served as a very important tool for medical and genomic research. A single 100X coverage human genome sequencing experiment can generate about 200-300 GB data, while a soil meta-genomic experiment can generate several Terabytes data. The cost of NGS has been decreased to about 1000 USD, which makes large scale population genome analysis possible, for example, the US precision medicine initiative plans to sequence DNAs of one million persons. With the rapid generation of petascale to exascale genomic data, there is a growing demand for highly scalable analytic tools to speed up the data processing/mining algorithms for bio/medical applications. In this talk, I will present our genome assembly tool, SWAP-Assembler, for large scale genome analysis.
