Abstract:

Many scientific simulations require the solution of partial differential equations. Discretizing these equations often leads to large and sparse linear systems, which can be solved efficiently by multigrid methods in many situations. Multigrid methods, however, have to be adapted to the problem. To adapt a multigrid method to a given problem, local Fourier analysis (LFA) can be used. In this talk, I want to present a framework for local Fourier analysis that is flexible and well suited for computer implementation. I will present how this framework can be used to analyze complex multigrid methods and how it can be used to construct a flexible local Fourier analysis software.

Anyone interested is cordially invited to participate in this seminar.
