Institute of Climate and Energy Systems (ICE)

The “Institute of Climate and Energy Systems” (ICE) researches solutions to climate change and the energy transition. With an interdisciplinary approach, we study the climate system processes and air quality, and the development and optimization of energy systems across technical, societal, and economic dimensions. ICE aims to foster innovative research that addresses the interconnected challenges of climate change and sustainable energy supply.

Energy Systems Engineering (ICE-1)

ICE-1 develops models and algorithms for the simulation, optimization and control of energy systems.

Juelich Systems Analysis (ICE-2)

At the Institute ICE-2, we conduct research into how a sustainable energy system can be achieved and what it might look like.

Troposphere (ICE-3)

The Institute ICE-3 explores the chemistry of the troposphere, performs global observations, and simulates atmospheric chemistry and transport processes by numerical models.

Stratosphere (ICE-4)

ICE-4 conducts research on the chemistry, dynamics and microphysics of the stratosphere and the tropopause region, and on the role these atmospheric layers play in the climate system.
