Helmholtz Quantum Project Brings Quantum Technologies Into Battery Research

The recently launched project QT-Batt aims to accelerate the adoption of quantum technologies in the battery research field. Funded by the Helmholtz Initiative and Networking Fund (INF) as part of the Quantum Use Challenge, QT-Batt brings together the expertise from different centers across the Helmholtz association, including Jülich, Berlin, Dresden, Mainz, and Münster, with a mix of theoretical and experimental research working in tandem to develop quantum computing and quantum sensing technologies for real-world applications in battery research.

A team of researchers from IET-3 under the lead of Dr. Tobias Binninger contributes to QT-Batt with the development of quantum computing models for charge storage processes in battery materials.

The Helmholtz Quantum Conference, recently held in Berlin in July 2026, provided an excellent opportunity for in-person meeting and discussions among the QT-Batt partners, as well as exchange with other project consortia of the Quantum Use Challenge focusing on applications of quantum technologies in the areas of energy, health, and earth and environment.
