Research Topics

The research group focuses on structural and functional aspects of synaptic transmission and its modulation at the level of neuronal networks, single neurons and synapses of the neocortex during development and in the adult state. The rodent somatosensory cortex, in particular the barrel field, serves as a model system here. Brain slices are used to study in detail individual neuronal circuits in a cortical column. The long-term goal is to elucidate and model the structural and functional organization of neurons and their synaptic connections in a cortical column in their entirety.
