Material Interaction (Post-Test Investigation) of SOC Stacks and Membrane Reactors

About

The Materials Interaction Research Group investigates the complex interactions between metallic, glass-ceramic and ceramic materials in SOC stacks and membrane reactors operating under extreme conditions. These systems are exposed to high temperatures ranging from 500 to 900°C and oxidising and reducing atmospheres, which place significant stress on the materials and lead to degradation processes such as corrosion, ageing and interdiffusion. The team is working across institutes to analyse the long-term effects of these operating conditions on individual materials, components and the overall system. The results contribute to improved lifetime and efficiency, the development of material-aware designs and optimised recyclability of SOC stacks and membrane reactors.
