PSIK12

Computational Oxide Spintronics

Psi-k Research Conference

May 6th - 10th, 2012

Cranage Hall, Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, UK (http://www.cranagehallcheshire.co.uk)

Scope:

The main purpose of this research conference (sponsored by the Network of the European Science Foundation “Advanced Concepts in ab-initio Simulations of Materials (Psi-k2)”) is to provide an active forum for discussion on the state-of-the-art - including challenges and perspectives - of the theoretical modeling for transition metal oxides. What we propose is a “Gordon-research”-like conference lasting 3.5 days consisting only of invited/plenary speakers and of a poster session with lots of time for discussion. While the main focus will be on "ab-initio" simulations, a strong interface to many-body physics treated on the basis of realistic model Hamiltonians will be included and a few leading scientists in experiments will be invited.

Among others, topics of specific interest will be:

  • Multiferroics and magnetoelectrics
  • DMFT + electronic correlation
  • Oxides-based interfaces
  • Beyond-LDA functionals
  • Topological insulators and Berry phases
  • Superconductivity and interplay with magnetism
  • Defects in oxides and high-k materials
  • Oxide tunnel junctions: transport and magnetoelectric coupling
