Prof. Dr. Regina Dittmann is the new Director of the Institute for Electronic Materials (PGI-7)

Prof. Dr. Regina Dittmann took over as Director of the Institute of Electronic Materials (PGI-7) on March 1. She was officially appointed Director of the Institute, succeeding Prof. Rainer Waser, who retired in summer 2024.
Prof. Dittmann studied physics at the University of Cologne and obtained her doctorate at the University of Giessen. Through the tenure-track program of Forschungszentrum Jülich, she was able to establish her working group for “Pulsed Laser Deposition of Complex Oxides” at the Institute of Electronic Materials in January 2002. In 2011, Ms. Dittmann was selected for the “W2/W2 Program” of the Helmholtz Association and was appointed W2 Professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at RWTH Aachen University in November 2012. As part of her appointment as head of PGI-7 and the collegial management of PGI-10, she was appointed W3 Professor of “Electronic Materials” at RWTH Aachen University.
Regina Dittmann runs the “Electronic Oxide Cluster” at PGI-7 for the in-situ characterization of functional oxide layers. Ms. Dittmann is an internationally leading scientist in the field of elucidating switching and failure mechanisms in memristive devices and their use in neuromorphic circuits.
With her extensive expertise, Prof. Dittmann will further develop research at PGI-7 in a targeted manner and provide new impetus. We look forward to her scientific contributions and wish her every success in her new role.
