Neural networks meet quantum computing?

Schematic illustration of an open Hopfield-like quantum mechanical neural network: interacting quantum spins realize the quantum neurons, which are subject to a combination of coherent and dissipative dynamics and can act as an associative memory for patterns.

The recently completed ERC Starting Grant project ‘QNets’ is the focus of a new article in the ‘Results in Brief’ series on the European Commission’s CORDIS website, highlighting the potential of quantum neural networks for realising scalable quantum information processing. QNets was coordinated by Prof. Markus Müller, Director at PGI-2.
