Feodor Lynen Research Fellowship for Scientist at PGI-11
30 July 2018
Dr. Gianluigi Catelani from the JARA-Institute Quantum Information (PGI-11) was last year awarded a Feodor Lynen Research Fellowship for experienced researchers from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The physicist came to Forschungszentrum Jülich in 2012 from Yale University and had previously held research positions at various universities in the United States. He has now completed the first part of a research stay back at Yale University funded by the Fellowship. Two further visits to the Yale Quantum Institute are already being planned.
The aim of the collaboration involving the groups headed by Prof. Robert J. Schoelkopf (Experimental), Prof. Michel Devoret (Experimental) and Prof. Leonid Glazman (Theory) is to understand decoherence in systems with two or more superconducting qubits. Having already collaborated on previous projects, the researchers had so far concentrated their research on decoherence in single qubits. Decoherence is a significant problem for the realization of quantum computers, as it impedes the superposition of different states of qubits.
The Feodor Lynen Fellowship for experienced scientists supports extended periods of research stays abroad at host institutions that are part of the Humboldt Network, including for example, former scholarship holders. The programme encourages applications from outstanding scientists and scholars from Germany who completed their doctorates less than twelve years ago.
