Fundamentals and Applications of Nanoelectrochemistry

About

The research activities of the group “Fundamentals and Applications of Nanoelectrochemistry” are concentrated on electrochemical and, in general, physicochemical phenomena (kinetics and thermodynamics) at the nano and sub-nanoscale, such as mass and charge transport, electric double layer, point defects, surfaces and interfaces.

A special focus is set on the relation between materials chemistry, structure, properties, materials design and creating on demand functionalities.

Research Topics

  • Electrode kinetics and control of redox reactions in confined solid-state systems. Interplay between Schottky and redox barriers.
  • Effects of moisture, protons, interfaces and nanobattery effect on the electrochemical behavour, stability, switching mechanisms and performance of ReRAMs.
  • Design of materials and fucnitonalities of artificial neurons and synapses.
  • The interplay between defect chemistry and liquid electrochemistry at the interface between oxide electrocatalysts and aqueous electrolytes during OER for hydrogen production.
  • Degradation of electrocatalytic materials under real working conditions. Amorphisation, structural and chemical transformations, loss of activity, dissolution
