Senior Researcher plant and crop physiology, NMR / MRI methods development
I am interested in xylem and phloem long distance transport of water and carbon in the plant, and how it is affected by abiotic stresses such as drought and heat. To study the dynamics of translocation and sap flow classical invasive experimentation often does not suffice: it would disturb or destroy the sensitive pressure or water potential gradients that drive it. For this reason I use and develop non-invasive nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methods and hardware.
Key words: NMR, MRI, mobile NMR, NMR sensor;
Abiotic stress, plant water status, drought, source-sink, embolism formation

At the Institute of Bio- and Geosciences, Plant Sciences (IBG-2) at Forschungszentrum Jülich we focus on sustainable solutions to improve plant production for a sustainable agriculture. Key areas include plant phenotyping, analysis of plant-environment interactions, and the development of alternative biomass sources. By integrating molecular, physiological, and ecological approaches, we support the bioeconomy and promote resource efficiency and adaptation to changing climate conditions.
