The department investigates innovative high-performance coating techniques with a focus on thermal spraying for High-Temperature Technologies. Research and development of improved materials for these applications is closely linked. Typical applications are thermal and environmental barrier coating systems for stationary and aircraft gas turbines.

Our research areas and infrastructure

High Temperature Protective Coatings

The research group focuses on developing materials solutions for protective coatings such as thermal barrier coatings (TBC) and environmental barrier coatings (EBC) for highly thermomechanically loaded components.

Smart Coatings

The group develops layer systems with additional functional properties such as sensing properties, self-healing capabilities or enhanced strain tolerance.
