Research group
We develop and use mathematical models to understand and predict biogeochemical and -physical processes in soils. Our research contributes to a better understanding of the response of agroecosystems to climate change and other environmental threats such as pesticides, microplastics, and emerging pathogens. We combine mathematical modeling with experimental approaches and effective data analysis.
Research Focus
The Soil System Modeling group is part of the DFG Cluster of Excellence PhenoRob Core topics of the group are:
- Resilience of soil systems and agroecosystems
- Data fusion and knowledge integration for improved prediction of processes in soil
- Digital soil twinning of soil systems by combining machine learning with process-based models for efficient prediction of biogeochemical processes.
Research interests
- Mathemathical modelling
- Thermodynamics in soil systems
- Soil-microbiome-plant interactions
- Carbon and nutrient cycling
- Reactive transport of organic chemicals and microplastics
- Bayesian model conditioning
