Building expertise in bioinformatics and life sciences
The Institute of Bio- and Geosciences - Computational Metagenomics (IBG-5) at Forschungszentrum Jülich offers highly specialized training courses in bioinformatics and life sciences. These courses provide researchers with the necessary knowledge and practical skills to master challenges in life sciences.
Content and focus of the training courses
The IBG-5 courses cover a wide range of topics, from the basics of bioinformatics and data management to advanced methods of genome analysis and lipidomics. Metagenomics is a particularly noteworthy area. Here, participants learn how to analyze and interpret complex microbial communities. This also includes the application of cloud-based methods for data processing and analysis, which make it possible to handle large amounts of data efficiently.
Practical application and tools
A central component of the courses is practical application: participants work with current bioinformatics tools and software solutions such as the Metagenomics Toolkit, which is being developed by IBG-5. The courses offer theoretical knowledge and practical sessions in which new skills can be applied. Participants can bring and analyze their own data sets.
Target group and participation
The courses are aimed at doctoral students, postdocs and experienced researchers from the life sciences and bioinformatics. They offer the opportunity for further training, to learn new methods and to network with other researchers.
