Data, Tools & Ressources

The INM-1 adheres to the principles of Open Science and the FAIR principles. We make research data, software, and digital tools available in a transparent, traceable, and as open-access manner as possible so that they can be used, reviewed, and further developed by the scientific community.

The INM-1 is actively involved in the NFDI, the National Research Data Infrastructure, to promote sustainable standards for the handling of research data. When developing scientific software, we follow established RSE best practices for quality, documentation, reusability, and long-term maintenance. This results in resources that make research on the human brain accessible and foster collaboration across disciplines and institutions.

Julich Brain Atlas

Julich Brain is the first three-dimensional atlas of the human brain that maps the variability of brain structure at microscopic resolution.

BigBrain

BigBrain is currently the highest-resolution, freely available three-dimensional reconstructed model of a human brain.

MEBRAINS

The MEBRAINS Multilevel Macaque Brain Atlas integrates various levels of macaque brain organization—from structure and function to connectivity. To achieve this, it combines complementary datasets across different spatial and temporal scales.

The dataset shows how cell bodies are distributed across the layers of the cerebral cortex. It is based on microscopic tissue scans from the BigBrain, in which cells were automatically detected and statistically analyzed using an AI model developed at INM-1.

1000Brains

A comprehensive study on the structure and function of the brain involving nearly 1,000 participants, aimed at understanding the interaction between different brain regions and the changes they may undergo during the normal aging process.

EBRAINS Knowledge Graph

Through the EBRAINS Knowledge Graph, approximately 200 datasets that were (co-)published by INM-1 are freely available.

siibra Toolsuit

siibra is a freely available software toolkit for digital brain atlases. It links multimodal datasets with anatomical structures and enables their interactive exploration in a 3D web viewer, as well as their programmatic integration into data analysis and simulation workflows.

tiamat

tiamat is a modular Python toolkit for large scientific image datasets. It enables the access, transformation, and delivery of image data within flexible workflows—without duplicating data or converting formats in advance.

Cell Detection

An award-winning AI model developed at INM-1 for the automatic detection of cells in image data. It can reliably identify cells even in complex images and can be applied to image data from various scientific fields.

JuGEx

Software for analyzing gene expression in cytoarchitectonic regions.

Fiber Architecture Simulation Toolbox for 3D-PLI

A Python toolbox for simulating fiber architecture for three-dimensional polarized light imaging. It enables the modeling and analysis of nerve fiber bundles.

Scattered Light Imaging ToolboX

Python toolbox for the automated analysis of scattered light imaging data. Visualization of SLI image stacks as colored vector maps and preparation for further analyses such as tractography.

Sphere-Histo

A graphical tool for visualizing point distributions in three-dimensional space. Color-coded visualization of points on a spherical surface, making directional distributions easily recognizable even in large datasets.
