Accolade Image of the Year 2020 for Merle Hönig

Dr. Merle Hönig and her colleagues were awarded the Image of the Year 2020 by the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) for their work on "Resistance to Tau and Amyloid Pathology Facilitates Super-Aging".

Each year, the SNMMI selects an image that best illustrates the most promising advances in the field of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging. This year, the work of Dr. Hönig and colleagues was selected from more than two thousand submitted abstracts. According to SNMMI Scientific Chair Dr. Umar Mahmood, the selected image provides an insight into how PET imaging can be used to understand behaviors and therapies that enable us to age successfully and maintain our cognitive abilities.

Particularly execptional is that the research group has already been awared with this prestigious itnernational award in 2016 (Dr. Gérard Bischof), which overall highlights the state-of-the art research on neuroimaging at the Research Center Juelich and the University Hospital Cologne.
