JSC@ISC High Performance '25

The Arrival of Exascale in Europe

JSC@ISC High Performance '25

JSC at the ISC High Performance 2025 conference - 10th to 13th of June, Hamburg, Germany.

This year, the Juelich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) will be present with two exhibition stands at ISC: booth #Z02 by JSC is dedicated to the new exascale supercomputer JUPITER, showing JSC’s wide-ranging supercomputing activities, while booth #K02 by GCS will be showcasing the joint activities of the German partners within the Gauss Centre for Supercomputing (GCS). Alongside JSC, these include the High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS) and the Leibnitz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ).

Our focus topics at ISC include the exciting leap to exascale, significant developments in quantum computing, and thrilling opportunities in artificial intelligence.

The most striking attraction will be the presentation of the first European exascale supercomputer JUPITER, developed and hosted by JSC, at its dedicated booth (#Z02). Visitors will learn about the scientific flagship projects that will be possible with JUPITER on a video wall. Other highlights at the booth will be two special exhibits: an original LEGO model of JUPITER and its Modular Data Centre (MDC), accompanied by the chance to take a VR tour through the data centre, and a blade of the JUPITER Booster. A dedicated monitor will showcase the exascale supercomputer JUPITER as well as the JUPITER AI Factory (JAIF) and our proven monitoring tool LLview will provide a live insight into the computing jobs running on the system.

At the GCS booth #K02 we will showcase the growing Jülich UNified Infrastructure for Quantum computing (JUNIQ), including live access at the booth, giving visitors a glimpse of its potential. Moreover, we will illustrate the steadily increasing importance of AI in HPC, as reflected in developments such as the Helmholtz AI Cooperation Unit. On top of that, a model of the new PASQAL quantum simulator will be on display.

Numerous JSC contributions: talks, tutorials, and workshops

Andreas Herten organises the tutorial “Efficient Distributed GPU Programming for Exascale” in cooperation with NVIDIA. Together with the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, Brian J. N. Wylie joins in organising the tutorial "Determining Parallel Application Execution Efficiency and Scaling using the POP Methodology". In addition, Brian J. N. Wylie also helps to organise the "2nd International Workshop on Readiness of HPC Extreme-Scaling Applications". Together with the Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT), Robert Speck speaks and leads the workshop "Research Software Engineering in High-Performance Computing - Tools and Techniques for Continuous Integration and Benchmarking" while Bernd Mohr meets & greets in "Happy Sithole and Bernd Mohr".

Six additional Birds-of-a-Feather (BoF) sessions are jointly organized by JSC members Hans-Christian Hoppe, Filipe Guimarães, Marcel Aach, Stefan Krieg, Florian Berberich, Cristina Manzano, Anna Lührs, Stefan Kesselheim and Sandra Diaz Pier.

JSC will also be presenting seven posters as part of the “ISC Poster Sessions”, which is designed for scientists to showcase their projects. "The Art of Process Pinning: Turning Chaos into Core Harmony" is ranking among the top three of all posters at this session.
